内容の説明

This report is based on a search of the research literature and discussions with older people about the National Service Framework standard on Active Healthy Ageing. It identifies two perceptions of older people: one where older people are vulnerable, frail and limited in the choices available to them, and the other where older people are presented engaging in a variety of activities, including sports, with a wide range of choice available to them. Whilst the latter model was considered a positive representation, it was also criticised for denying the losses and gains that come with ageing. The authors conclude that there needs to be a more open negotiation, between older people and society as a whole, about what "successful" ageing actually means.
